Japanese animation director Takahiro Shikama has worked on many major anime projects including Blue Exorcist, Fire Force, DARLING in the FRANXX, Space Dandy and The Last: Naruto The Movie.

Shikama told Arab News Japan he started his career in animation when he was 20 years old.

“My first project in animation industry was Deltora Quest TV series which was adapted from Australian children’s books series written by Emily Rodda,” he said.

Shikama explained his main inspiration in terms of anime and manga was popular anime artist Yuzo Takada and his work.

During the 80s and 90s, Shikama said anime and manga conveyed “overwhelming and dynamic camera works.”

He added that there was more action in Japanese animation than in Hollywood films. The technique had a great impact on overseas movie directors, Shikama said.

The animator said his favorite manga includes ‘3×3 EYES’ and ‘Blue Seed,’ while his favorite anime were ‘MACROSS PLUS’ and ‘AKIRA.’

Shikama told Arab News Japan that his hope was to share his original short animation to the world through social media.

He said those wishing to find their place in the animation industry need to finish the job on schedule but also make sure to have fun while working.
