The cinema arm of the United Arab Emirates based holding company Majid Al Futtaim, VOX Cinemas, will live stream a virtual global concert entitled “The Sound of Beirut” on September 8, as a tribute to Lebanon after a major explosion ripped through the city’s port area on August 4, killing at least 200 and wounding thousands.

The Sound of Beirut will be hosted by the Arab world’s first legal music streaming platform and digital distribution company Anghami, in partnership with Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate, and will be free to watch through the streaming app or Lebanon TV from 10 p.m. GST.

During the two-hour broadcast of the virtual concert, fans who tune in will be able to donate while watching through the event page, with all proceeds going towards the Global Aid for Lebanon, a campaign set up by Global Citizen to support relief efforts by the United Nations World Food Programme, Lebanese Red Cross, United Nations World and the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon.

In attempt to support the initiative and aid the accumulation funds directed towards the people of Lebanon, VOX Cinemas will live-stream the event at its cinemas in Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif and Yas Mall.

All the proceeds from the tickets priced at AED 50 will also be donated to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign. Concertgoers can purchase tickets for “The Sound of Beirut” online at the VOX Cinemas website or on the VOX Cinemas app.

The event will feature performances from more than 30 Arabic and International artists, including Alan Walker, Ali Gatie, Carmen Soliman, Craig David, French Montana, Ghassan Saliba, Hatim Ammor, Maya Diab, Mohamed Hamaki, Ragheb Alama, Joe Ashkar, Joseph Attiheh, The Chainsmokers, Guy Manoukian, Humood Al Khoder, Justin jesso, Khaled, Latifa, Massari, Mishaal, Oras Sattar, Powfu, RedOne, Regard, Rodge, Saad Lamjarred, Sami Yusuf and Souad Massi.

“We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters impacted so heavily by this tragic explosion. I would like to thank Sony Music, all the artists, and our partners involved in this important fundraising initiative. The world has truly come together to support this cause, but we know more needs to be done so please tune in to see these fantastic acts, and give generously,” Chief executive and co-founder of Anghami, Eddy Maroun said.
