DUBAI: The life-size Freedom Gundam statue project that was announced last year and is now open to the public in Shanghai. It is the first mobile suit of its magnitude outside of Japan, and is considered an indicator of the Gundam fanfare growing globally.

The project was revealed in July 2020 for the Gundam China Project to put the life-size Freedom Gundam on display in Shanghai. Right on schedule, the statue has been erected in front of the shopping arena in Shanghai and is now open for public viewing.

Designed by legendary designer Kunio Okawara, the full-scale Freedom Gundam statue is 18-meters tall, which is the same scale as in the anime series as well the first full-scale Gundam statue to have large wings on its back. The tip of the blade is equipped with a new landing gear for landing.

The life-sized interpretation of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is accompanied by the Gundam Base gunpla. The store has also opening in the same shopping complex in Shanghai. The Gundam Base Shanghai will feature merchandise including model kits liked to the Freedom Gundam and other Mobile Suits.

An opening ceremony for “GUNDAM docks at SHANGHAI” will be held on May 28 with many limited edition products are scheduled to appear at the event.
