DUBAI: On Jan. 11, Epiphany Productions held a private screening for their latest documentary film, ‘Language of Cosplay’ in Dubai.

The attendees of the event consisted of those who were involved in the creation of the film including the cast, crew, sponsors, and community members who helped through sending in archive footage.

The event was not only held to showcase the film, but to also celebrate those who have helped bring the film to life.

Due to the nature of the film, the dress code for the event was cosplay, which made the event very fun, as everyone came to the cinema dressed up as their favorite characters. The event brought a lot of attention to the cosplayers as cinema guests wanted to take pictures with all the cosplayers who dressed as characters they recognized.

The event programme consisted of many gratitude and appreciation to all of those who helped in the creation of the film, a behind the scenes look at the process, an exclusive Q&A panel with the crew, and finally, the showcase of the final film.

The Epiphany Productions members were very thankful for many of the kind words from the audience members at the end of the film. One of the main purposes of creating the documentary was to bring attention to the cosplay community here in the UAE, and help people understand how cosplay is truly a form of art and as a team we hope that our goal has been met.

One of the audience members who attended the event said: “Having watched ‘Language of Cosplay’ at their screening I can honestly say it’s an amazingly produced film. Given the restraints of COVID-19 and general difficulties that come when making a film, I can honestly say this is amazing. The amount of work that has gone into every aspect of the film from direction, sound, locations, adds to the quality of the film. A stand out is the music composition- 11 originally composed tracks is an amazing feat and it just adds to the film. ‘Language of Cosplay’ gives a deep look into the cosplay community in the UAE and shows the level of talent and dedication that exists. All of the contributors in the film really put their hearts into everything they said and taught the audience. On top of that, they were emotionally vulnerable, which helped me look at cosplay in a new light. I would love to watch it again.”

‘Language of Cosplay’ is directed by Norah Alheraiz, produced by Ruchi Vaya, directors of photography Karam Zaiter and Ali Khaleel, edited by Armando Madrid, composed by Chris James, sound design by Daniel Jacob, and graphic design by Alwalah Alsubaiei.
