DUBAI: The world’s first liquefied hydrogen carrying vessel, “SUISO FRONTIER”, has anchored at Zayed Port in Abu Dhabi from Aug. 7 to 11.
Officials from ADNOC, the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure, Masdar and Tawazun participated in a tour onboard of “SUISO FRONTIER” and were introduced to the Japanese technologies aboard.
At last month’s Japan-UAE summit in Abu Dhabi, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Japan’s Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio agreed to enhance cooperation on decarbonization and clean energy, and to lead on climate action in the international community towards the success of the 28th session of the UNFCCC Conference of Parties (COP28.)
Hydrogen is a key energy source for achieving carbon neutrality, and many countries are working to establish a global hydrogen trade and supply chain.
According to the Japanese Embassy in the UAE, the visit by “SUISO FRONTIER” is an opportunity to promote future cooperation between Japan and the UAE in the field of clean energy.
“SUISO FRONTIER” is built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and it has successfully completed the world’s first shipment and transportation of liquid hydrogen from Australia to Japan in February 2022.
The temperature of liquefied hydrogen needs to be maintained at about 100℃ below the temperature needed to transport LNG. This vessel can transport liquefied hydrogen with minor losses similar to that of LNG transportation.
