DUBAI: The world’s leading business event for future energy and sustainability, the World Future Energy Summit, hosted by Masdar as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, hosted the Japan Pavilion along with other countries from Jan. 17 – 19.

The summit had calls from governments, climate scientists and investors to accelerate adoption of the circular economy and scramble renewables usage in resource generation and consumption.

The World Future Energy Summit 2022 wrapped up with over 200 sessions of essential industry content on transformative technologies and developments, complemented by key sustainable development and climate change conferences and hundreds of technologies and innovations on the exhibition floor.

Exclusively to Arab News Japan, Yogo Satake, the manager of the Japanese pavilion said the theme was “Energy transition to unlock planetary boundaries.”

“We showed various solutions and technologies from 15 companies from Japan, with solutions including hydrogen, ammonia, CCS, and carbon recycling, battery, and solar power,” he said.

“Exhibitors include Toyota with hydrogen car Mirai, and their strategy for a sustainable society,

Toyo engineering showing clean fuel ammonia production process, Inpex is introducing how they realize carbon free energy transition, IHI with their energy supply chain solution, JGC GROUP with their EPC solution including green hydrogen and ammonia, Kawasaki with liquified hydrogen carrier, Suiso frontier, Chiyoda corporation showcase their hydrogen supply chain,” he added.

About distinguishing the Japanese pavilion participation at WFES 2022 from previous events, Satake said: “Sustainable society would be more important in the post-COVID world, to reduce carbon emissions, and transition to clean energy. We would like to introduce technology and solutions.”

Yoshio Tanaka, Deputy General Manager, Administration & CSR at JAPAN OIL DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD. (JODCO) told Arab News Japan about their participation at WFES 2022: “We have showcased about our strategy and technology of hydrogen and CCUS.”

“Due to the spread of corona infection, the specialists at the HQs could not make a business trip, and we could not explain our exhibits well. Our exhibits were highly specialized and required expert explanation from HQ,” he added.

Kei Fujita, Chief Representative at Toyota Middle East & Central Asia Representative office said that Toyota was also “committed to be carbon neutrality and we have started the hybrid car concept in 1997. We have continued to develop the concept & working on selected vehicles powered by fuel cell technology and the first generation was introduced in the market in 2014 and the second generation was introduced & being sold last year in Japan, U.S. & Europe.”

He explained that there are no permanent hydrogen stations in UAE at this moment, but with some countries like the UAE are taking the lead in hydrogen technology.

“We are focused on working with other selected fuel cell products makers for buses & trucks, which are more suitable for fuel cell technology because battery electric vehicle is getting popular in the area of mobility. But these bigger vehicles require larger electric batteries and sacrificing larger capacity in them, so fuel cell technology goes better with these vehicles and that’s why we are providing our fuel cell technology system in packages & putting them in buses & trucks and even for a stationary generator manufactures. That’s how we want to expand with fuel cell technology,” he added.

The annual World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi is the world’s leading business event and exhibition for future energy, clean-tech, and sustainability. Bringing together government and business leaders, with 840 brands represented and approximately 34,000 attendees from 125 countries, it showcases pioneering technologies and ground-breaking thinking in energy, energy efficiency, water, solar, waste, smart cities, climate, and environment.

As a global hub for business, innovation, and knowledge exchange at the heart of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The World Future Energy Summit inspires the advancement and transfer of ideas, technology, and investment across borders and between the public and private sectors worldwide, helping to stimulate sustainable growth for all stakeholders.
