ABU DHABI: Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs and the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) signed a new partnership that aims to support trade and explore global opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The agreement will combine Tokyo’s industrial expertise and Abu Dhabi’s global perspective to provide companies a chance to grow and compete internationally, according to the Abu Dhabi media office.

Both organizations will exchange data and insights needed to help businesses succeed, as the Abu Dhabi and Tokyo teams will work closely over the next 12 months to deliver joint activities such as trade missions, policy dialogues, targeted workshops, and business matching programs.

The Abu Dhabi media office reported that ADIO and the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs will start executing the first phase of the agreement within the next few months.

The joint partnership reflects Japan’s commitment to exploring Middle Eastern markets and adapting to the evolving global trade industry.

“Abu Dhabi offers an ideal platform for Tokyo-based SMEs aiming to expand their reach into the Middle East and beyond,” said Tanaka Shinichi, Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs’s Director General.

“This strategic partnership with ADIO will create tangible opportunities for export growth, knowledge exchange, and deeper commercial ties. It’s a timely and strategic step forward that strengthens both economies,” he added.

Badr Al-Olama, ADIO’s Director General, also commented on the partnership, saying, “Abu Dhabi offers an ideal platform for Tokyo-based SMEs aiming to expand their reach into the Middle East and beyond. This strategic partnership with ADIO will create tangible opportunities for export growth, knowledge exchange, and deeper commercial ties. It’s a timely and strategic step forward that strengthens both economies.”
