TOKYO: All Nippon Airways plans to give a special allowance of 100,000 yen to all employees next January, it was learned Wednesday.

The airline informed its labor union of the payment plan the same day, according to sources familiar with the situation.

ANA has agreed with the union to skip summer and winter bonuses for the current fiscal year to March due to deteriorated earnings amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. But ANA plans to reward employees’ contribution to the company with the special allowance.

ANA’s parent, ANA Holdings Inc., expects to incur a consolidated net loss of 100 billion yen in the current fiscal year, for the second straight year of red ink.

As cost reductions, including pay cuts, have made steady progress, however, ANA decided to remunerate employees for their hard work amid the coronavirus crisis, the sources said.
