The dollar jumped above 125 yen in late Tokyo trading Monday, hitting the highest level in six years and 10 months.
At 4 p.m., the dollar stood at 125.42-43 yen, up from 124.04-04 yen at 5 p.m. Friday.
The greenback attracted buying in anticipation of the widening gap between U.S. and Japanese interest rates, reflecting rising U.S. Treasury yields.
