BEIJING: All Nippon Airways said Thursday it will resume its passenger flight services linking Beijing and Narita International Airport near Tokyo on July 11, operating only flights departing Beijing for the time being.

The unit of ANA Holdings Inc. will resume the services after a break of two years and six months due to the policy of China taken in response to the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Japanese companies operating in China and other parties called for resumption of flights between Beijing and Tokyo.

Chinese authorities are very cautious not to let the virus into the Chinese capital. The resumption of international flights was limited basically to those involving other Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Guangzhou.

China’s Hainan Airlines is also discussing with authorities to resume its Beijing-Narita flights, informed sources said. Both ANA and Hainan plan to operate one flight per week on the route.

On Tuesday, the Chinese government said it will shorten the mandatory quarantine period for arrivals from abroad.
