TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio said Tuesday that his country will take economic and fiscal steps in a flexible way to address soaring inflation following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Japan “will implement economic and fiscal policy management flexibly in line with changes in the domestic economy and prices while working together with the international community including its Group of Seven partners,” Kishida said in a meeting with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Tokyo.
Georgieva said that the IMF is considering the future of the global economy seriously.
She also said that the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was a tragic loss to Japan and the world.
Georgieva came to Japan to attend an event on Wednesday to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
