TOKYO: Hino Motors Ltd. said Monday that it has found an additional case of engine data tampering, following the revelations of falsification of engine emission and fuel efficiency test data on large trucks.

The Japanese truck maker will newly suspend shipments of its flagship Hino Dutro small truck. The company’s engine data fraud unfolded to include most of its vehicles sold in Japan.

“The discovery of the additional fraudulent case is extremely serious, and there is no excuse for that,” Hino President Satoshi Ogiso told an online press conference. “Once again, we deeply apologize for the misconduct,” he said.

On Aug 2, Hino Motors, a Toyota Motor Corp.  subsidiary, said that its data tampering had stared since at least 2003, citing a report by a third-party investigation committee.

The report also said that Hino Motors made a false reply to an investigation by the transport ministry.
