TOKYO: Former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn will reveal the details of his $1 billion lawsuit against Nissan in a press conference hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan on Tuesday. Ghosn will be accompanied by his Japanese lawyer GOHARA Nobuo.
Ghosn will be speaking from Lebanon where he escaped after jumping bail in Japan where he was accused of financial irregularities while he was chairman and CEO of Nissan.
Ghosn’s fellow Nissan executive Greg Kelly was convicted of a single charge of false reporting of income and given a suspended sentence after being detained in Japan for three years.
Ghosn avoided being convicted after his dramatic escape hidden in a box and flown out of Tokyo Haneda airport on a private jet. Ghosn maintains that all the charges against him were concocted to force him out of his job and prevent a merger between Nissan and French partner Renault.
Ghosn has now sued Nissan for $1 billion claiming libel, defamation and the fabrication of material evidence.
Japanese authorities still regard Ghosn as a fugitive and are demanding his extradition to face trial in Japan.
The upcoming Ghosen press conference is expected to get wide attention from the media seeking new information into a case that seems to have reached a dead end.
