DUBAI: The UAE’s Japanese Consul-General NOBORU Sekiguchi bid farewell to Dubai on Sept. 12 as he invited guests to his residence for the exchange of goodbyes.
Noboru began serving as Consul-General in Dubai in 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was his first posting in the Middle East.
He told guests that he spent three years in Dubai regularly promoting relations between Japan and the UAE. “I can now leave Dubai with a sense of accomplishment,” he added.
Noboru explained that his time in the Gulf country was marked by three major events, which were: the COVID-19 pandemic, the Expo 2020 Dubai and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the UAE.
He stated that Japan could learn from the UAE’s fast economic recovery post-pandemic and its hosting of the Expo, which many hail a huge success.
The next expo will take place in Osaka, Kansai in 2025. The Consul-General added that he sees “many future exchanges between the two countries for the next 50 years.”
Noboru introduced Dubai’s new Consul-General as JUN Imanishi, and said he hoped the UAE will extend the same kindness and support as was extended to him.
