DUBAI: The Japanese Pavilion came back for the 29th edition of Gulfood in Dubai from Feb. 19 to 23, with many Japanese participants aiming to make their products available in the region.

Supported by the Japan External Trade Organization in Dubai (JETRO), the Japanese Pavilion at Gulfood featured over 25 exhibitors, including brands such as Kewpie, Otafuku, and Hikari Miso.

“We are committed to promoting Japanese products globally and fostering meaningful connections between Japanese producers and international markets,” said Nobuyuki Nakajima, Managing Director at JETRO Dubai and the Middle East region. “Gulfood has always helped us showcase the diversity and quality of Japanese culinary offerings, and this year is no exception,” he added.

This year’s special focus was on Japanese seafood, which is known for its exceptional quality and distinct flavor.

On this occasion, JETRO teamed up with renowned chef Pawel Kazanowski to be their Japanese Seafood Ambassador. He represented JETRO at the Top Table, a special feature by Gulfood, presenting a star-studded line-up of internationally renowned chefs who will be unveiling the next culinary trends and food masterpieces.

Kazanowski offered a glimpse into the diverse and sustainable offerings of Japanese seafood by showcasing different products, focusing on their exceptional quality and their diverse usage across various cuisines. He prepared several dishes while explaining the amazing health and nutrition benefits, in addition to giving tips and tricks on how to store, freeze, and defrost the food.

“Japan is famous for using traditional and artisanal fishing methods that have been passed down through generations, contributing to the unique and authentic character of Japanese seafood. Opting for Japanese seafood means embracing a commitment to sustainability and responsible harvesting practices. From meticulous aquaculture to stringent quality control, each product ensures minimal impact.” said Pawel.

“We are offering the public a chance to embark on a global culinary journey with sustainable, high-quality seafood that transcends borders,” Nakajima concluded.

The chef has extensive experience in Japanese cuisine, which he has gathered throughout his career. His dedication redefined Japanese cuisine and influenced the broader Asian culinary landscape in Dubai.

Under the theme ‘Real Food, Real Business’, Gulfood 2024 brought together global brands including Agthia, Al Ain Dairy, Americana, Dilmah, and Hype Beverages to showcase authentic food products, ingredients, and culinary practices.

The event brought together food and beverage communities from over 190 countries in Dubai for its 29th edition across 24 halls. Over 5,500 exhibitors, including 125 country pavilions, continued to make real business connections and conclude commercial deals and partnerships totaling billions of dollars.
