TOKYO: Sponsored by the Islamic Center and the Tokyo Mosque, the Arab Salon, in cooperation with the Sudanese community in Tokyo, held a charity bazaar to collect donations for needy Sudanese and highlight the human suffering in that country.

The bazaar was attended by many Japanese and members of the Arab and Islamic communities of various nationalities, led by Musa Omar, Executive Director of the Islamic Center in Japan, and the former Sudanese Ambassador.

The former Japanese ambassador to Sudan, HATTORI Takashi, also participated, stressing the strength of the relationship between the two countries and the Japanese government’s support for the return of peace and stability to Sudan.

“Sudan is in a very difficult situation, and I am confident that it will recover soon, and that the Japanese government and companies will play a major role in the recovery process”, Hattori said.

The bazaar included cultural activities and a display of traditional costumes that reflected the diversity of Sudanese culture and heritage. Japanese band Rika presented a Sudanese folklore show.

The bazaar included lectures on the Sudan and the effects of the war it is suffering from, especially the education sector in Sudan, and the need to increase activities that will help introduce Japan’s people and society to the Sudanese issue.

The owner of the Arab Salon, Suhair Tayfour, presented symbolic gifts and certificates of appreciation to some of the contributors to the bazaar, including the director of the Tokyo Mosque and the head of the Cultural Center.
