DUBAI: Japan Airlines announced on Oct. 7 that it will begin selling Japanese luxury wagyu beef to passengers traveling to the US and Singapore.
Passengers on any flight heading to those destinations will be able to purchase wagyu of highest A5 grade from Hokkaido and Kagoshima prefectures on the airline’s website and pick it up at Haneda and Narita airports during check-in at departure counters.
According to reports, the beef needs to be ordered about 48 hours prior to departure and is about 30 percent cheaper than equivalent grade beef distributed abroad.
Travelers going to the US can get block cuts of Kagoshima wagyu, which are sold for 29,300 yen ($198) per kilogram, while Hokkaido wagyu is priced at 27,800 yen ($188).
Cut meat is offered instead to passengers heading to Singapore.
