DUBAI: Palestinian Karate player Maryam Bisharat won gold on Oct. 12 at the 13th World Karate Federation (WKF) Junior and Youth World Championship, after she defeated an Egyptian player in the final match.

Bisharat, 21, made history by winning gold in the Italian city of Venice, for the first time in Palestinian history.

The win came after her victory in the semi-final against an Italian national team player with a score of 8-3.

The Karate player also defeated a Belgian national team player in the quarter-finals with a score of 7-1, and in the round of 16 she defeated her Swiss counterpart 1-0.

In her first match, she defeated the Bosnia and Herzegovina player with a score of 4-0.

According to the Palestine news agency, Bisharat was crowned champion of the Asian Championship for the game last August, and champion of the World League Championship last May.
