Nike Japan clings onto it’s designs for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games despite the event’s postponement due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak, with the release of the “Nippon Pack.”

The Nippon Pack includes the sneakers Air Max Triax 96 and Air Max Tailwind IV, which both feature red polka dots as a tribute to Japan's national  flag. The Triax has a white mesh tongue with metallic gold text that reads  “Nippon”, a white leather exterior, and red circles encircling the shoe that shift from a bright red around the forefront to a dark burgundy around the heel.

To further highlight the brand’s tribute to Japan, the heel is decorated with a shiny flag-inspired detail.

Similarly, the Tailwind has a white mesh tongue with metallic gold text that reads “Nippon”, a white leather exterior, and red circles that surround the entirety of the shoe in a reverse red-palette, with a dark burgundy around the front to a bright red around the heel.

Both shoes have red swooshes with golden outlines and translucent bubbles that form the Air Max units.

The alternative use of the national flag’s colors through the polka-dotted designs make the homage to Japan immediately distinctive and act as a celebratory token to the highly anticipated event.

The Nike Air Max Triax 96 and Air Max Tailwind IV, which collectively form the “Nippon pack” were released on the Nike Japan website on June 23.
