Oral care is an important part of our daily lives; however, most people do not pay full attention to what the contents of their toothpastes contain.

 

Japanese biotechnology company Trife Inc. took notice of the importance of oral hygiene, especially in Japan’s aging population, and began a project under the name ORALPEACE.

ORALPEACE is made with the ingredients originating from natural and edible raw materials, derived from plant food and 100% water.

Speaking exclusively to Arab News Japan, the project’s Executive Advisor Ryoji Kako said that when the product was first created, the theme was “green – a contribution to an aging society.”

“However, the range of the products has been expanded since then based on our customers’ requests,” he added.

Kako said there are three basic flavors of the product, including green, orange and mint. “Orange flavor is a little sweeter and for babies and pregnant women. Mint flavor is a fresh sports type that suits young people’s tastes.”

ORALPEACE’s Founder and CEO Daisuke Teshima started the project after his father had struggled with cancer in 2012 and suffered from various troubles caused by bacteria in the oral cavity due to weakened immunity from anticancer drugs.

According to the official website, Teshima’s father swallowed a synthetic antiseptic for the oral cavity, breaking his stomach and making him even weaker.

ORALPEACE uses new research to develop oral care products that are safe to swallow while sterilizing bacteria that cause problems in the oral cavity, a first of its kind.

ORALPEACE’s advisor told Arab News Japan the company takes pride that “it is suitable to the Arab world because it does not contain alcohol and can be used in the environment where water supply is scarce.”

“In Japan, it is used as an emergency food in situations where water supply is scarce during earthquake disasters. It is environmentally friendly and is suitable for the outdoors in nature,” he added.

According to ORALPEACE’s website, there are oral products suitable for pets, which are sold in Asia, in places such as China and Hong Kong.

“We will strive to develop oral care for pets who are important family members,” Kako said. “ORALPEACE is about family ties. It was developed based on recognition that pets are indispensable to our lives and are important family members who need oral care similar to humans’ oral care.”

Aside from Asia, ORALPEACE started distributing their products in Europe starting with Czech Republic. However, Kako said they have not yet started selling in other Western countries such as France.

He added that they are considering distributing in the GCC area but have not yet found the right opportunity.

The project has won multiple awards including the “Japan Venture Award” in 2015 and the “Good Design Award” in 2017.
