People who enjoy both the beach and books should venture to Oarai Sun Beach in Ibaraki prefecture and visit Sunahama Library, which will be open for visitors until Oct. 31, as it offers books as well as tents to sit under.

The library will launch on Oct. 16, organized by the Oarai Tourism Association, and will accommodate around 60 people. Visitors should book online to ensure a spot is secured and pay an entry fee of ¥500 ($4.37) per person.

The beach-side library will abide by coronavirus regulations by ensuring the seats are distanced and the books are sanitized after every use.

On weekends, a food truck will be available to supply snacks and enhance the overall experience.

Guests can also bring their own book, if the library’s selection does not appeal, but should inform the reception of any books borrowed.

Aside from reading by the beach, the library also held a lantern event in Nov. last year.
