Japan’s former Ambassador to Yemen visits Oman for talks on peace in Yemen

TOKYO: HAYASHI Katsuyoshi, the former Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen who is a Special Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited the Sultanate of Oman from July 29 to August 2 and held consultations about the situation in Yemen with parties concerned in the Yemeni conflict.

Among those involved in the discussions were Mohammed Abdulsalam, spokesman for the Houthis, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Issa Al Harthy, Oman’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Diplomatic Affairs. 

In the consultation with the Houthis, Special Assistant Hayashiexpressed Japan’s strong hopes that an intra-Yemeni dialoguewould soon take place, with the aim of realizing a permanent peace in Yemen. He urged the Houthis to reach a political solution to realize peace in Yemen. 

In the consultations with Undersecretary Sheikh Khalifa, Hayashi stated that the government of Japan appreciated the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman towards renewing the truce in Yemen and realizing a durable peace. 

Both sides confirmed that Japan and Oman would continue to work together regarding the Yemeni issue.

Japan, in cooperation with the United Nations and the various countries concerned, plans to continue to make efforts to realize peace and stability in Yemen through providing necessary assistance and diplomatic efforts.
