DUBAI: HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Japanese minister of foreign affairs, met with secretary general of the league of Arab states, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, as part of his visit to Egypt on Sept 5.

During the meeting, HAYASHI praised the efforts of Gheit in addressing various issues that Arab states have been facing, and promoting development and prosperity in the region.

In return, Gheit expressed his high appreciation for Japanese assistance to the Arab World, including United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA.)

Both parties agreed to continue and promote cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, people exchange based on the memorandum of cooperation between Japan and the league of Arab States that was signed in 2013.

They also discussed the issue of the release of the treated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant; Gheit expressed his trust in the IAEA’s assessment and Japan’s consequent action.
