TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko spoke by telephone with her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen on Thursday and expressed Japan’s unequivocal condemnation of the recent terror attack by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially the attacks on, and kidnappings of, innocent civilians.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Kamikawa stated that the brutal, indiscriminate attacks cannot be justified, and it is obvious that Israel has a right to defend itself and its people in accordance with international law.

Japan’s Foreign Minister asked for Israel’s support to secure the safety of Japanese nationals. Cohen stated that Israel is ready to provide support needed by Japanese nationals for their safety.

Kamikawa expressed Japan’s hope that the situation will calm down as soon as possible. The two ministers agreed to continue working together toward stabilization of the region.

Kamikawa also had similar talks with the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt and Qatar on Thursday.
