Jordanian Ambassador discusses Gaza situation with Japan’s Foreign Minister

TOKYO: Jordanian Ambassador to Japan Lina Annab paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko on Monday and the two diplomats discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Kamikawa told Annab that Japan unequivocally condemns the recent “terror” attacks by Hamas and others, and that Japan is calling for the immediate release of “hostages” and securing the safety of civilians.

Kamikawa added that she wants to see tensions reduced as soon as possible and that all parties in the conflict should act according to international law.

Ambassador Annab explained the position of Jordan and stated that she shares the great concern about the situation on the ground.

Kamikawa said she appreciated Jordan’s diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation of the situation and noted that Japan is providing emergency assistance grant aid of $10 million through international organizations to help with the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. 

Kamikawa said she would like to continue working with Jordan to reduce tensions as soon as possible and to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. 

Kamikawa deeply appreciated Jordan’s cooperation regarding the transportation of Japanese nationals and others from Israel, and Ambassador Annab stated the Jordan will spare no effort in securing the safety of Japanese nationals. 

According to the Foreign Ministry, Kamikawa and Annab agreed to continue cooperating to ensure the safety of civilians, to improve the humanitarian situation and to calm down the situation as soon as possible.
