Japan, Jordan foreign ministers agree on cooperation on Gaza

TOKYO: KAMIKAWA Yoko, Japan’s Foreign Minister, said she is paying close attention to the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with great concern and that Japan has been calling upon all the parties to act following international law and calming down the situation as soon as possible.

Her statement was made during a meeting with her Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Al Safadi, in Amman on November 4.

Minister Kamikawa also conveyed that Japan’s position to support a two-state solution remains unchanged.

In addition, Minister Kamikawa said that given the very difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, especially the fact that children with a future, women and older people are victimized, Japan is preparing to provide humanitarian aid of around USD 65 million and relief supplies through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Palestine for the time being, in addition to the emergency grant aid worth USD 10 million that has been already decided.

The Japanese minister said she deeply appreciated Jordan’s cooperation regarding transporting Japanese nationals from Israel.

According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo, Minister Al Safadi stated that Jordan will spare no effort in securing the safety of Japanese nationals. He explained the position of Jordan and stated that he shared great concern about the situation on the ground and highly appreciated Japan’s assistance.

The two ministers concurred on continuing to cooperate to ensure the safety of civilians, to improve the humanitarian situation as the ongoing most important priority and toward the realization of a humanitarian pause that would contribute to such ends, as well as to address persistently to calm down the situation as soon as possible.
