DUBAI: The Japanese Embassy in Lebanon announced that the Japan Government was offering small scale grants for development projects that will meet the “diverse needs of the vulnerable communities and people.”

‘Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects’ (GGP) aims to support projects proposed by various organizations such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and municipalities. GGP’s goal is to improve the livelihood of socially and economically vulnerable people.

GGP was established to assist NGOs and local public authorities to implement small-scale projects directly benefiting the people at grassroots level as well as contributing to the socio-economic development.

In Lebanon, 319 GGP projects have been supported by various organizations since 1996, which has amounted to more than 31.6 million US dollars.

Japan received more than 160 applications every year so far, and limits the grant amount per project to 20 million JPY (roughly up to $135,000).

Those looking to apply need to fill out an application form, a budget breakdown, a financial report and other additional documents.

Applications have been open since Dec. 11 last year and will close on Jan. 19.
