TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko said on Friday that aid promised to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip has been delivered as promised.

“Regarding the critical humanitarian aid situation in Palestine, Japan has provided a total of about $75 million of humanitarian assistance,” Kamikawa said. “Part of that assistance such as food and water was provided through international organizations and that has already reached the intended site and been distributed to the [Palestinian] citizens.”

“The early distribution of food support through Japanese NGOs is being arranged. In addition, through JAICA, tents and medical consumables and related support have already arrived in Gaza and are being used by the local citizens and hospitals.”

Kamikawa noted that winter has settled in, and the Palestinian people are in an even more difficult situation. She said she was “strongly concerned” about this situation. Japan has also sent a research team to Egypt to find out about medical doctors.

“We will continue to provide such support with speed and provide support based on the local needs,” Kamikawa said.
