TOKYO: Chief Cabinet Secretary HAYASHI Yoshimasa met with Abdullah Allafi, Vice President of the Presidential Council of Libya, in Tokyo on Thursday and expressed his expectations of revitalizing the bilateral relationship.

Hayashi stated that Vice President Allafi’s visit was a timely one, following the reopening of the Embassy of Japan in Libya for the first time in approximately 10 years.

Regarding the situation in Libya, Hayashi conveyed the message that political stability in Libya, through elections and the establishment of a unified government, is indispensable for the stability of the country.

Allafi explained about the stabilization process of the security situation in Libya and expressed his expectations for the revitalization of economic relations with Japan. He also expressed sympathy for the damage caused by the powerful earthquake on January 1 and expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance after the flood disaster that struck eastern Libya last September.

The two sides agreed on revitalizing bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on how to achieve that goal.
