TOKYO: Kuwait’s Ambassador to Japan Sami Al-Zamanan, visited areas affected by the deadly Noto Peninsula earthquake of Jan. 1, inspecting damage to homes and infrastructure. 

The ambassador spoke to several people in Toyama Prefecture offering them with moral support. He also expressed his sincere condolences on behalf of the State of Kuwait as he visited several shelters and schools, meeting with families, the elderly, and children.

Al-Zamanan met with several volunteers and expressed appreciation for their dedication and great sacrifice for the sake of all those who had been affected by the recent earthquake.

Ambassador Al-Zamanan also met with the Governor of Toyama Prefecture, NITTA Hachiro, the Mayor of Himi City, HAYASHI Masayuki and the Mayor of Takaoka City, KAKUDA Yuki. 

“I reiterate that my country stands with the Japanese people, and we will make every effort to continue strengthening relations to achieve their common interests,” he said.

After the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami in March 2011, Kuwait provided a grant amounting to 5 million barrels of oil in support of “our friends in Japan.” 

During a reception held by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the ambassador met with Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko, who expressed her thanks and appreciation for the ambassador’s initiative in visiting the Noto region. She expressed Japan’s appreciation for Kuwait in standing by the Japanese people.
