TOKYO: Japan’s Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs FUKAZAWA Yoichi on Thursday received a courtesy call from Lebanese Ambassador Nidal Yehya and the two diplomats discussed the situation concerning Israel and the conflict in the Middle East.

Ambassador Yahya explained the situation in southern Lebanon and expressed his hope for Japan’s continued support, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Fukazawa stated that he is monitoring the conflict with Israel in southern Lebanon and expressed his concern. He promised to strengthen cooperation with Lebanon to stabilize the regional situation.

Fukazawa also expressed his respect for the role that Lebanon plays in regional peace and stability, such as by accepting Syrian refugees, and confirmed that Japan will continue to support Lebanon’s economic and social development.

The two sides also exchanged views on bilateral relations and agreed to continue communicating in the future.
