Elon Musk took it to his platform X to share his thoughts about the current declining birth rate in Japan, saying that the country will eventually “disappear” if it continues to drop.

Musk, who is a father of 10 children, made his comment on Thursday in response to an article that says over two people in Japan die for every newborn child.

His X post has now gone viral, in less than 24 hours, with more than 73 million views and 203,000 likes.

X users shared their opinions in the replies, with one saying, “Most people I know under 30 never want to have kids.”

The SpaceX CEO replied to one user on his viral post regarding the declining birth rates in South Korea. “South Korea might beat them in the race to oblivion,” said the user, which Musk agrees with.

On Tuesday, a preliminary health ministry report showed that the number of children born in Japan hit an all-time low for the eighth year straight in 2023, as it totaled 758,631.

In Feb, the government adopted a bill to bolster measures to tackle the declining birth rates, which included expanding child benefits and child-rearing leave allowances.
