TOKYO: In the wake of the unexpected flooding in Dubai, TBS, a prominent TV channel, has drawn attention to the global issue of extreme weather and raised the possibility of its repercussions reaching Japan.

TBS said the intense rain in Dubai was caused by the ocean temperature patterns. The Indian Ocean’s temperature is high right now, and moist air from the Indian Ocean moved toward Dubai. This, combined with the cold air entering the skies above, resulted in record rainfall in the region, especially in Dubai.

“What concerns Japan is that this area of high sea surface temperatures extends farther east,” TBS reported. “This will tend to strengthen the high-pressure system to the south and would mean that the warm air around the high-pressure area would also be carried to Japan.”

Although Dubai doesn’t get much rain, Al Ain in the eastern part of the country experienced a record rainfall of 254 mm in 24 hours, far exceeding the amount of rainfall in a year.
