
Princess Kako of Akishino is visiting Greece to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
She attended commemorative ceremonies and other events to deepen friendly relations between the Japan and Greece.
Princess Kako also met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his wife Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis.
On her trip, the princess visited the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896, on May 28.
She was guided by the president of the Greek Olympic Committee and others as she toured the stadium.
Princess Kako also visited a local judo club and spoke to children practicing the sport, wishing them luck.
On May 27, Princess Kako took a ferry to Salamina Island near Athens and arrived at Faneromeni Monastery. She was welcomed by the Archbishop and other officials.
Inside the church, Princess Kako viewed the restored frescoes, which were restored with the efforts of Professor Masako Kido, an emeritus professor at Kyoritsu Women’s University.
On her first day, she visited the Parthenon in the Acropolis, a World Heritage Site in Athens.
The princess is scheduled to return to Japan on June 1.
