Couple in Saitama infected with virus after visiting Egypt

TOKYO: A series of new coronavirus infections were confirmed in Saitama Prefecture Tuesday including a couple in their sixties who visited Egypt, ANN Japanese TV Network reported.

In Saitama Prefecture, five new cases were confirmed. Three are a couple in their 60s and a son in their thirties living in Kawagoe City, and the other two are a couple in their 50s living in Iruma City.

According to Kawagoe City in Saitama, north of Tokyo, the couple in their 60s went out on a trip to Egypt from February 21 to March 1, taking a Nile cruise. After returning home, the women developed fever and cough, and the infection was confirmed on March 10. Further, their 30-year-old son living with them has also been confirmed infected. Kawagoe City is investigating if the couple were infected in Egypt.

One of the couples in Iruma City is said to be part-time staff working at the city hall. The city has already disinfected the department where the staff was, and says that the city hall will continue to operate as usual after March 11.

Furthermore, Saitama Prefecture has announced that two couples living in Iruma City have been infected. They traveled to France from February 24 to March 2. This means that a total of 15 infections have been confirmed in Saitama Prefecture.
