TOKYO: The Foreign Ministers of Japan, Egypt and Jordan met in New York on Monday and discussed ways of approaching the situation in the Middle East and tackling the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Japanese Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko met with Egypt’s Dr. Badr Abdelatty and Ayman Safadi of Jordan and expressed serious concern that the fighting in Gaza has been going on for nearly a year, that many civilians have been killed and that the humanitarian situation is critical.

She emphasized that it is imperative for all parties concerned to make efforts “to release the hostages held by Hamas and effect a ceasefire.”

Kamikawa said Japan will work closely with Egypt and Jordan to prevent further escalation of the situation and reduce tensions in the Middle East.

Ministers Abdelatty and Safadi said they shared the concerns of Kamikawa and that the situation in the region is extremely tense. They said they would cooperate with Japan, who they regard as a close ally and strong partner.

The three Ministers added that they would continue to exchange views and work together.
