
TOKYO: A strong earthquake shook Tokyo and its surrounding region on Monday evening and swayed buildings for a few seconds.
Japan’s Meteorological Agency said the quake had a magnitude of 4.5 and its epicenter was located in the northwest of Chiba Prefecture, which adjoins Tokyo, at a depth of 70 kilometers.
The quake swayed buildings in Chiba Prefecture and the 23 wards of Tokyo. It had a seismic intensity of 3 in central Tokyo and 2 in the surrounding areas. There was no danger of a tsunami.
Earlier in the day, several other earthquakes hit the region with magnitudes of 2.3, 3.7, 3.0 and 2.5, but all had a low seismic intensity.
No damage was reported immediately after the quakes.
