Japanese protesters force Israeli company Elbit to shut exhibition booth early

TOKYO: As the Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2024 ended at the weekend, protesters inside the exhibition hall started shouting slogans aimed at Israeli defense company Elbit Systems, a company that they say is complicit in genocide through its work with the Israeli Defense Forces.

The protesters shouted: “Shame on you Elbit, the genocide company! Get out! Stop the massacre. Shut Elbit down! Shut Elbit down!”

The protests in Japan have achieved some success. The Elbit booth at the Aerospace Exhibition was closed prematurely and earlier this year Itochu canceled a memorandum of understanding it had agreed with the company.

However, Elbit has said it will continue to do business in the Japanese market as it tries to grab a piece of Japan’s increased defense spending.

Elbit has previously been referred to as a “merchant of death” by protesters in Japan.
