TOKYO: A demonstration was held in front of the Israeli Embassy in Tokyo on Saturday to protest the resumption of bombing by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

On March 18, Israel bombed sleeping Palestinians indiscriminately in the middle of the night, massacring at least 436 people, 183 of whom were children. In doing so, Israel breached the ceasefire with Hamas and resumed plundering and massacring the citizens of Gaza and the West Bank, speakers at the protest said in speeches.

The protesters pointed out that since 2023, 902 families in Gaza have been “annihilated,” describing Israel’s actions as “genocide.”

One protester stated: “What Israel wants is for us to despair, to give up and remain silent, so now is the time to speak up. If we don’t speak out now, when will we?”

The protesters called for an immediate end to the genocide and an end to the form of “apartheid” in Gaza.

They shouted, “Stop the war on Gaza,” “Stop the bombing,” “End the genocide,” “Stop killing children” and “Free Palestine.” They also chanted “Boycott Israel,” “Abolish Israel,” and “Free Palestine from the River to the sea.” Demonstrations have been held every week in Tokyo since Israel invaded the Gaza Strip and started killing Palestinians.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department dispatched a large number of its security who prevented the demonstrators from approaching the small street in the area leading to the Israeli Embassy building.
