TOKYO: North Korea on Monday declared that the best way to ensure the security of the US mainland is not by expanding indiscriminate military power, but by completely abandoning military threats and aggressive actions against other countries.

“The United States is raising the threat level against North Korea while planning the largest military buildup in history,” stated the Director of the Policy Office of the Minister of National Defense of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Referring to a report by the US Department of Defense’s Defense Intelligence Agency, the North says top US military officials are playing up the nuclear threat of North Korea “and even hinted at the possibility of a war with our country.”

The report refers to these as “worrying words” and highlights that it coincides with the US government’s request for a military budget exceeding $1 trillion. The North justifies this military expansion by citing the “alleged threat from other countries.”

The North accused South Korea of disclosing plans for a nuclear war against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and claimed that the US is targeting North Korea.

“The U.S. military strengthening initiative, being implemented on a large scale under the pretext of addressing the ‘threat’ posed by an adversary, represents a new danger signal for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula. We are closely monitoring the U.S. nuclear arsenal, which poses a serious threat to both regional and global peace and security.”
