A strong trembler shook Japan’s northern region of Tohoko, awakening people at 5:39 a.m. of Monday April 20. No damage or injuries were reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said in an immediate press release that there wasno tsunami reported as a result of the earthquake.
It hit with a seismic intensity of 6.1 at its epicenter, on the Japanese scale Shindo of 4 degrees, and at a depth of 50 Kilometer under the Pacific Ocean waters off Miyagi prefecture north east of Tokyo.
The quake magnitude was 3 to 4 in surrounding prefectures of Tohoko, including Sendai, which was hit by a disastrous quack in 2011 that crippled Fukushima Power station causing the worst nuclear crisis in the history.
In addition, a seismic intensity of 1 Shindo was also observed over a wide area in the Kanto region, including Tokyo.
No reports of abnormalities in nuclear power plants in the area. Speed trains were halted temporarily before resumed operation, authorities said.
