TOKYO: The Japanese government said Monday it will expand the scope of its entry ban related to the coronavirus pandemic to cover 110 countries and one region, effective midnight Tuesday (3pm GMT, 7pm UAE).

Eleven countries were newly added to the list. They are India, Argentina, Pakistan, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Ghana, Guinea and South Africa.

Japan will deny entry to non-Japanese who have been to any of the 110 countries and one region in the previous two weeks.

Japanese nationals who returned from any of the countries and region will be asked to take polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, tests and quarantine themselves for two weeks.

The government also said it will extend the period of its coronavirus-related border control measures by one month until the end of June.
