Japan strongly condemns the Houthis’ cross-border attacks against Saudi Arabia, Japanese Press Secretary Ohtaka Masato said in a statement Friday.

Saudi Arabia announced that it had recently intercepted several missiles launched by Houthis targeting Saudi civilians in Saudi cities, including the capital Riyadh, on June 22 and 23.

Masato stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East is important for international peace.

He added that the Government of Japan is engaging in humanitarian assistance in Yemen, as the situation is deteriorating with the widespread of COVID-19.

Japan is calling on all parties for an immediate ceasefire, and an early start on discussions for a political solution in Yemen, the statement said.

The Japanese Press Secretary said Japan is committed to making efforts to work with concerned countries to maintain and reinforce peace in the Middle East.
