People had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at a ground floor store in the Marunouchi Trust Tower North in central Tokyo at around 18:15 hours on Wednesday.

Civil Defense teams were on high alert and immediately escorted people out of the building and its vicinity.

Arab News photographs showed people exiting the building with their mouths covered and smoke could be seen in the building lobby.

Smoke also filled the ground floor hallway as the Tokyo Fire Department quickly got the fire under control and checked to ensure that no one is left behind in the building.

Traffic is at a standstill around the building as the roads are closed for the delegations attending the Prime Ministers State Dinner.

The fire has been extinguished and there are no reports of any injuries.
