64 new coronavirus cases confirmed at US bases in Okinawa

NAHA, Okinawa: A record high of 64 new coronavirus cases were confirmed at US military bases in the southernmost Japan prefecture of Okinawa on Saturday, the prefectural government said.

Total cases at the US bases in the prefecture came to 229.

There have been cases in Japanese nationals working at the bases.

The prefectural and Japanese governments will test Japanese people working at the Marine Corps’ Futenma air station and Camp Hansen for the virus Saturday and Sunday.

Clusters of infection are believed to have occurred at the Futenma base and Camp Hansen.
