TOKYO: On Nov. 3, Japan expressed solidarity with Austria and expressed sympathy and condolences over the Vienna attacks. 

“Japan extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved families for the loss of their loved ones and expresses heartfelt sympathy to those who were injured in the attacks which occurred in the Old City of Vienna on November 2,” a statement by the foreign ministry said. 

“Japan stands in solidarity with the people in Austria in this difficult time,” the ministry said stressing that “such act of violence cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan firmly condemns all forms of terrorism.”

Multiple gunmen opened fire at several locations in central Vienna on Monday and killed 4 people according to the latest death toll released, Media reports in Japan quoted Austrian authorities as saying that one of the attackers who was shot dead by the police “was a sympathizer” with the so-called Islamic state.
