TOKYO: The Japanese government on Friday deeply deplored recent Israeli government plans to construct about 800 housing units in settlements in the West Bank.
“Japan remains deeply concerned by and deeply deplores the continued settlement activities by the Government of Israel despite repeated calls from Japan and the international community for freezing such activities,” an official statement issued by the foreign ministry in Tokyo said.
Settlement activities are in violation of international law and undermine the viability of a two-state solution.
The Government of Japan strongly urges the Government of Israel to reverse the above mentioned decisions and fully freeze its settlement activities, the Japanese foreign ministry said.
