TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and his Canadian counterpart, Justin Trudeau, agreed on Wednesday to cooperate in tackling global challenges such as the novel coronavirus pandemic and climate change.

The two leaders, speaking over the phone, also exchanged views on East Asia, including China’s military activities in the East China Sea and South China Sea.

Suga and Trudeau also agreed they will cooperate closely at a Group of Seven summit in Britain in June and on other occasions to strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law.
