TOKYO: Japan welcomed on March 12 the approval by the House of Representatives of an interim Government of National Unity in Libya on March 10, and expressed “strong hopes that this interim government will make necessary preparations for the presidential and parliamentary elections.
“The elections are scheduled to take place on December 24, 2021, to be conducted in a free and fair manner as a key step forward toward stabilizing Libya,” the foreign ministry in Tokyo said.
“Japan highly commends the efforts by the Libyan stakeholders which have led to the approval of the interim Government, and urges the parties concerned to refrain from any counterproductive attempt on this process.”
Japan pledged to continue to cooperate with the international community with the intention of achieving stability in Libya.
