TOKYO: A hospital in the Tachikawa area has posted slogans on its windows against the organization of the Olympic Games: “Give us a break; the Olympics are impossible” and “Medical capacity has reached its limits; stop the Olympics.”

In the area of the hospital in Tokyo’s Tama district, official Olympic posters are fixed to the walls.

Hospital director Masayoshi Takahashi said he issued a written comment about the protest by hospital staff.

“Following the reduction of hospital beds, and the allocation of intensive care beds for Covid patients, the hospital cannot respond to all requests for treatment of other pathologies, which has the consequences of putting our medical staff under pressure. The hospital has no choice but to oppose the Olympics.”

Staff at the Sogo clinic located at the hospital had to close several of the hospital’s departments and postpone appointments to later dates as mentioned on its website.

The town of Tachikawa is expected to host Olympic and Paralympic torch ceremonies in July and August.
